WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC – The Fourth Annual North Carolina Surf to Sound Challenge, a Series Event sanctioned by the World Paddle Association, and the East Coast Paddle Surf Championship are attracting national and international standup paddleboard competitors to Wrightsville Beach, Oct. 31 – Nov. 2.
Highlighting the weekend, Olympic Gold Medalist Larry Cain, and World Champion dragon boat paddler Jessica Rando, return to defend their respective men’s and women’s elite division championships. Cain and Rando are from Canada.
This year’s three-day family weekend starts on Halloween, offering SUP clinics by Cain and Rando, a beginner course for standup paddle surfers, storytelling and s’mores for kids, and SUP races for every skill level on four unique race courses, a total of 20 miles, covering open-ocean and inland waters.

12-4 p.m.: Beginner SUP Surf Clinic
10:00 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.: Jessica Rando Clinic Breaking Down the Race Course
10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: Larry Cain Clinic Advanced Paddling
4-8 p.m.: Check in and packet pickup (Late registration)
5-7 p.m.: Family trick or treat and face painting
Costume contest: Best adult and best child awarded prizes from Coastal Urge
7:15 p.m.: Storytelling and s’mores for Kids

Participants, families and fans are invited to the Wrightsville Beach Chamber of Commerce Second Annual Oyster Roast on Sunday, 4-7 p.m., surfside on Oceanic Pier. The menu features fresh local oysters, shrimp plates, sides, sauces, hushpuppies, deserts, drinks, and optional bar. Tickets are $30 per person, and available at Robert’s Grocery, South End Surf Shop, or online at: www.Wrightsville.org.
