Gala at Private Historic Site benefits Sea Turtle Program at Masonboro
“For Masonboro“, a benefit for the Sea Turtle Program on Masonboro Island will be held Saturday, September 25th at a historic setting overlooking Masonboro Sound. This private estate was once the legendary plantation of William Hooper, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; later became the home site of the Wright family (i.e. Wrightsville Beach); and served as the site off the first Masonic Lodge in North Carolina (Hmm..Mason-boro; that’s where it came from!). The property is now the home place of Richard and Carole Johnson.
Guests will be entertained 5-10 p.m. by four live bands: Jason Andre, The Castaways, Zion and John Sweeney’s Band. Seafood and local fare will be provided by area restaurants and hotels. The event’s title sponsor is Hope From Helen.
A live auction and raffle will include an autographed surfboard signed by professional surfers from the Reef/Sweetwater Pro-Am (Sweetwater), a stand-up paddle board tour of Bald Head Island (Coastal Urge), a kayak tour of Masonboro Island (Hook, Line and Paddle) and other wonderful items and services!
Festivities will be hosted by CERF (Coastal Estuarine Reserve Foundation), supported by For Masonboro Island and Masonboro.org. The goal of all three groups is to preserve the natural habitat and keep the uninhabited island open for people to enjoy.
Tickets are $75 (limited number available). To purchase, go to:
