1,600 athletes from around the world will participate in the internationally acclaimed PPD Beach2Battleship ‘Iron Distance’ Triathlon on Saturday, November 13. Thousands of spectators will witness extraordinary feats of endurance along the 140.6 mile route, from its starting point at the U.S. Coast Guard Station at Wrightsville Beach to the finish line at the USS Battleship North Carolina.
The race begins at Wrightsville Beach with a 2.4-mile swim through Banks Channel and Motts Channel that ends at SeaPath Marina.
Athletes pick up their bikes at Wrightsville Beach Park to begin the 112-mile ride traversing Interstates, highways and country roads in four neighboring counties to Battleship Park.
The final leg is a 26.2-mile run from the battleship, across the Cape Fear River, through historic downtown Wilmington, around scenic Greenfield Lake and back.
Top time last year was 8 hours, 34 minutes, 28 seconds.
The PPD Beach2Battleship benefits the YMCA. Spectators are invited to witness the excitement, take in relaxing activities at Wrightsville Beach, and tour two US Warships: The USS Battleship North Carolina and new state-of-the-art destroyer USS Gravely.
